Donna Wyatt Obituary

Donna Grace Wyatt, known as “Grace,” was born on July 16, 1948, in Canton, Ohio to the late
Harry and Agnes Leonard Wyatt. She departed this life on December 28, 2020, at her residence
in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. She had resided in Pittsburgh for over 35 years.
Grace graduated from Canton McKinley High School and received her bachelor’s degree from
Kent State University. Following graduation, she began working as a Social Insurance Specialist
for the Social Security Administration in Canton, Ohio; and she retired from their Pittsburgh
office after 30 plus years of service.
Having grown up in northeastern Ohio, Grace loved football and was a dedicated fan of the
Steelers as well as her beloved Cleveland Browns. She enjoyed travel, theatre, dance, and many
different types of music, especially jazz. Researching family genealogy was another interest;
and she loved to cook and experiment with new recipes and exotic spices. Her other great love
was politics; and she was an avid fan of the coverage on MSNBC.
Her friends describe Grace as quiet, intelligent, introspective, fiercely independent and deeply
committed to those causes and organizations she believed in. She served on the Board of
Directors of the Canton Urban League (currently the Greater Stark County Urban League) where
she was also a member of the League’s Big Sisters program. She also served on the Governing
Board of the Northeast Community Action Center in Canton (currently the Stark County
Community Action Agency). Lastly, Grace was a very proud member and Treasurer of Canton-
based S.C.I.A. (Society for the Cooperative Improvement of Africans), a grassroots organization
devoted to educating and uplifting the Canton Black community.
Grace was preceded in death by: her parents, Harry and Agnes Leonard Wyatt; two brothers,
McKinley Lancaster Jr. and Leonard T. Lancaster; grandmother, Susie Wyatt; aunts, Joanne High
(Arthur dec.) and Connie Wyatt; and uncles, Robert Leonard (Gloria), William “Big Boy” Leonard,
and William Wyatt.
She leaves to cherish her memory: one brother, Wesley Wyatt (Shirley); aunt, Gloria Leonard
(Robert dec.); sister-in-law, Judith E. Barnes Lancaster (Leonard dec.); niece, Lillian Lancaster;
nephews, McKinley Lancaster III and Richard Lancaster (Solestine); great nieces, Mariah Gibson,
Briana Lancaster Green (Xavier), and Corry Lancaster; great nephews, Miles Gibson, Joshua
Lancaster, McKinley Lancaster IV, Brian Wyatt, Lance Wyatt, and Spencer Wyatt; special cousin,
James High; dear friends, Bonnie Dent, Will Dent, Jacqueline Holmes, Cynthia Johnson, Gloria
Powell, and Bernard Storer; and a host of family and friends unknown.
A memorial service in her honor will be held at a future date.
